Welcome to the Transportation Department of Troup County Schools. We hope you will find this web site a valuable source of information regarding student transportation in the Troup County School System. The Transportation Department begins and ends the educational day by providing safe, professional and efficient transportation to eligible students. This includes travel to and from school, educational field trips, special program trips and other qualifying athletic events and competitions.

The Transportation Department operates a fleet of nearly 200 school buses daily. These buses travel a network of nearly 600 runs a day covering over 400 square miles, transporting over 8,000 students to and from school. School bus transportation is provided as a privilege to students who live more than 1.5 miles from their school. Courtesy transportation may be provided to students who live within 1.5 miles of their assigned school if a bus has room and does not have to travel off of its route.  Students are required to utilize assigned stops each morning and afternoon. Student Transportation is a privilege to be enjoyed by eligible students only as long as the student acts responsibly, follows all rules and regulations, and positively responds to the directions and requests of the Bus Drivers. Behavior expectations are no different than those of the classroom. Transportation of students should not be considered a door-to-door convenience, but a cost effective method of bringing students to their schools and returning them after instructional programs are completed. Students should always board and depart the bus at their correct stop and be at the bus stop no earlier than 10 minutes prior to the scheduled pick up time but at least 5 minutes before the scheduled arrival time.

The task of pupil transportation in Troup County is a massive one. Every school day our buses drive over 8,000 miles – enough to circle the Earth 1.5 times each week! In a year’s time, our fleet of school buses will travel a staggering 2.5 million miles!  There are three school zones; Callaway which features Callaway Middle and High Schools, Hogansville, Mountville, Cannon Street and Callaway Elementary Schools; Troup zone which features Long Cane Middle and Troup High Schools along with West Point, Berta Weathersbee, Whitesville Road, Long Cane and Rosemont Elementary Schools; and the LaGrange Zone schools which feature Gardner-Newman Middle and LaGrange High Schools along with Franklin Forest, Hillcrest, Hollis Hand, Unity and Ethel Kight Magnet Elementary Schools.   Westside Magnet is available to students who live throughout the county.   Since this is a controlled choice school district the challenges are formidable to provide transportation for up to five different elementary schools for the same address.
